Towards the end of the book, the judge hopelessly offends an arrogant and ignorant Imperial Censor after detecting a robbery and murder under his very nose. As the judge continues to resolve three property right disputes, even his supervisor becomes jealous. In the final chapter, the judge is removed from his current position to serve in the barren and westernmost region of China.
