I opened Merrill Lynch trading account and is trading on both Fidelity and Merrill Lynch.
I found that Merrill Lynch is better than Fidelity in following aspects:
1. Executions - Merrill Lynch has better executions than Fidelity. Once the price reaches, Merrill Lynch's order is always filled, but Fidelity may not.
2. I also get 100 free trades per month with Merrill Lynch, so I can trade as many stocks or ETFs as I want. This actually impact my trading results.
3. Merrill Lynch is more conservative than Fidelity. for example, the oil trading is not allowed (such as USO) unless you have more than 1M assets.
In addition, I got cash bonus by opening a Merrill Lynch account, the amount of cash bonus is upon on your asset value, for example, if you have $200,000, you will get $600 cash bonus, and more when you have more (you need to call Merrill Lynch to get details, but pretty much $300 for additional $100,000).
To be fair, Fidelity has more educational and research resources for traders.
I like both Fidelity and Merrill Lynch and are trading on both.
