Emily Wu’s autobiography, Feather in the Storm (Pantheon), describes her early life amidst the extreme political turmoil of China’s Cultural Revolution. In courageous and unsentimental prose, Wu tells the straightforward facts of her survival and allows her life experiences to evoke empathy. Because of their well-educated status, her family faced extreme persecution—beatings, separations, imprisonment, starvation. The act of writing her memoirs is a testament to Emily Wu’s endurance and commitment to living, and her devotion to literature and writing.

才看到你的贴。我看完《暴风雨中一羽毛》了，汇报一声，也写点简短的读后感：

１）巫宁坤教授应该在伊甸文苑贴一份检讨书，用英语写吧，检讨自己的男尊女卑
的旧思想。也赞一声，他同意女儿写出他的弱点，精神可佳。
２）巫教授说：“我已经对故去的人没有眼泪了，只对活着的人有眼泪。”我感慨。

３）书中提到江泽民，李志绥，李政道时，我笑了。
４）潘女士和军代表为救一毛的生命，自称是一毛的父母。感动。每个人的心灵深
处都有一块善良的角落，就像有一块阴暗的角落一样。
４）书中讲到傻子继贵，我为他顽强的生命力感叹。
５）巫一毛十五岁光着脚去上学，被老师同学笑话。她用两条又粗又黑的长辫子换
来一双塑料鞋。有趣。刚打开书时，我什么都没读，首先被一毛的秀发所吸引，有
这么好的头发的人不多，应该换两双鞋的。
６）全书对一毛的妈妈的描写令人感动，女人伟大，深信不移。向李一开女士致敬
（按照拼音猜的名字）！
７）一毛和一平的恋爱，借诗表达爱。我又笑了。（为力不让我对诗人出言不逊，
我也不能得罪爱阳，象罔，况也，兰若之流，还有那个悲歌，还有那个蓉弟。）
８）一毛命大啊，两次差点儿病死，两次差点儿自杀，都没得逞。同志们，没有什
么想不开的，死里逃生后，就能写书了。

Glad to meet you here. In fact I've been waiting for you. My niece met you in HK recently after she hosted a TV show for Chinese New Year in LA. She met you and your friends there before your book reading in HK, maybe in airport or somewhere. She sent you an email afterwards. Not sure if you have received it. When she told me about meeting you there, I surprised her by telling her that I know your father. My sister introduced him to me in late 1970s asking him to coach me English. He came to my house in Nanjing and brought Lady Yang Yi with him and introduced her to me. Please tell your father that I want to say hello to him. That was nearly 30 years ago. I still miss him. Wish you and him well.
